The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet has decided to extend Lilli Paasikivi’s term as the Artistic Director of the National Opera by three years up to 31st July 2023.
Tradeka and the Finnish National Opera have started collaboration. Tradeka supports the live streaming of the Opera Teatime Dances in season 2018–2019.
The Finnish National Opera and Ballet have initiated their first ever public fundraising campaign. The theme of the campaign is Support future talents. In August, the newly established Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Fund will take centre stage.
The Finnish Cultural Foundation’s Edvard Fazer Prize has been awarded to danseuse étoile Eun-Ji Ha of the Finnish National Ballet. Ha received the cup and accompanying cheque for EUR 10,000 during the première of Giselle on the stage of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet on Friday 23 February 2018.

Madeleine Onne has been appointed as the new Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet. The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet made their final decision in a meeting held today, Tuesday October the 10th. The Board invited the personnel groups of the Opera and Ballet to share their views on the appointment, and their statements were unanimously positive. Onne will start her new position in August 2018.
In January 2019 the Finnish National Opera will host the world premiere of a new opera from Finland based on Ulla-Lena Lundberg’s bestselling novel Ice. The novel was awarded the Finlandia prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award, in 2012.
Conductor Patrick Fournillier will start as the National Opera and Ballet’s Principal Guest Conductor in the coming season.
