Don Giovanni tries to seduce Donna Anna by pretending to be her fiancé. Anna’s father, the Commendatore, arrives, and a fight ensues. Don Giovanni kills the Commendatore but manages to escape. Donna Anna makes her fiancé swear to revenge her father’s death.
Next, Don Giovanni meets Donna Elvira, to whom he has once professed his love. Don Giovanni’s servant, Leporello, however, tells Elvira about Don Giovanni’s multiple conquests. At a country wedding, Don Giovanni seduced the bride, Zerlina, but Donna Anna recognizes the murderer upon her arrival. Don Giovanni and Leporello escape.
Leporello rebels. He doesn’t want to serve his master anymore, but Don Giovanni bribes him with money. Soon Don Giovanni finds himself attracted to Elvira’s maid and swaps clothes with Leporello in order to seduce her. Zerlina’s fiancé, Masetto, arrives to wreak his revenge. Leporello, mistaken as Don Giovanni, must reveal his true identity to escape death.
Don Giovanni is at a cemetery. He invites the statue of the Commendatore he’s murdered to dinner. The statue accepts the invitation. As the dinner begins, Donna Elvira comes to ask him to change his life. At the same time, the stone guest makes his appearance: the statue of the Commendatore has arrived as invited. The statue calls for Don Giovanni to make amends for his past. When he claims to have no regrets, flames engulf him.
