How to use the Stage24 service

The Stage24 service primarily offers free content for viewing. However, to access live streams and recorded performances, you need to sign in to your customer account. Select Stage24 performances require payment. You can find here the user instructions of the Stage24 service.

The Stage24 service of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet allows you to watch recorded performances, trailers, and other video content, read articles and listen to introductory talks about productions. The service also regularly offers live streamed performances from the Main Stage of the Opera House.

To access live streams and recorded performances on the Stage24 service, you need to sign in to your Finnish National Opera and Ballet customer account. Select Stage24 performances require payment. Once signed in, you can also save content to your favourites and continue watching or listening to Stage24 content from where you left off. Please note that recordings produced in co-operation with third parties such as the Finnish Streaming Company Yle and ARTE don’t support the Continue watching feature.

If you’ve used your email with us before, we have already created an account for you. If you don’t remember your password, you can order a new password from the link below. If not, please create a new account. Your password should be at least 7 characters long, including 1 uppercase letter, 1 number, and 1 of the following special characters: @ $ * ! – ? & or %. Please also ensure your password doesn’t start with ä, ö or a number.

Access to paid live streams and recorded performances is only available for purchase through the online store of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. Access to the content is strictly personal and cannot be shared.

The right to watch a live stream includes access to a recording of the same performance, which becomes available after the stream. The right to watch the recording can also be purchased separately once the live stream has ended. Please be aware that geographic restrictions may apply to certain paid content. We recommend checking the event page of the paid Stage24 content to confirm its availability in your region before purchasing.

The right to watch is valid from the time of the live stream or your access purchase until the final viewing date shown on the page of the recording, regardless of the timing of the purchase. The validity periods are specific to each performance and determined by copyright regulations. During the validity period you can enjoy the performance as many times as you wish.

You can access your purchased viewing rights on the Stage24 front page under “My purchases” when you have signed in to your account or on your account front page under “Upcoming events”. You can also find your viewing rights on the Stage24 tab in the Opera&Ballet mobile app by selecting the Stage24 performance you have redeemed, but we offer the best user experience in the staging.oopperabaletti.fi web service in the browser and in the Stage24 smart TV app for logged-in users.

The majority of the live broadcasts and recordings of the Stage24 service is available to watch worldwide, but geographic restrictions apply to certain content for reasons of copyright. Content that isn’t available in your country can’t be streamed. You’ll find information about potential geographic restrictions on each event page.

Please ensure that the Stage24 service works on your device before purchasing any content.

Stage24 smart TV app

The Stage24 smart TV app offers the easiest way to enjoy the Stage24 service on the big screen. The app is available on the following manufacturers’ devices:

To access your purchased viewing rights, saved favourites and continue watching, sign in to the Stage24 smart TV app using your Finnish National Opera and Ballet login details. Please note that recordings made in collaboration with third parties, such as the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle or ARTE, are not available via the smart TV app.

Cable
A HDMI cable will do the trick if you have a computer and a television. Use the cable to connect the two and pick the correct HDMI port on your TV. You should now see the content of your computer screen on the TV.

The web browser on your smart tv or games console
If you own a smart TV or games console with a web browser, you can navigate directly to staging.oopperabaletti.fi/en to launch the Stage24 service.

Mirroring
You can mirror your computer screen to your TV wirelessly, too. The Stage24 service currently supports Apple mirroring solutions.

Apple
If you have an Apple TV or an AirPlay compatible smart TV, you can mirror Stage24 content from your Apple mobile device or computer to your TV easily with Airplay.

Airplay
Please ensure that both your devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

YouTube and Vimeo embeds can only be played if you have accepted targeting cookies. Embeds from Yle Areena can be played if you have accepted performance cookies. To modify your cookie settings, go to cookie settings at the bottom of the page.

Check your internet speed
You need to have fast enough internet in order to watch live streamed and recorded content. We recommend a connection speed of at least 10 Mbps. You can check your connection speed easily online.

Restart your modem
Restarting your modem may be all you need to solve the problem. Turn the modem off for a moment and then try turning it on again.

Update your browser
Please ensure you have the latest version of your internet browser, or try using a different browser. We recommend using Google Chrome. You can install it for free here.

Check your cookie settings
YouTube and Vimeo embeds can only be played if you have accepted targeting cookies. To modify your cookie settings, go to cookie settings at the bottom of the page.

Close unnecessary tabs and apps
Having too many tabs and apps open may slow down your internet and your device’s processing speed.

Empty the cache of your browser
Emptying the cache and restarting the web browser can help solve a variety of connectivity problems. See instructions for emptying the cache here.
