The Orchestra and Chorus of the Finnish National Opera will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s magnificent Requiem at Hamina Bastion on Thursday 10 August 2023.
Verdi’s Requiem, which combines immense power and depth with melodic beauty, stands out as one of the most poignant examples of religious music ever created. In its 1874 world premiere, it received a more rapturous reception than any other funeral mass. Verdi’s distinctive treatment of religious text has resulted in a remarkable, standalone drama that has even been celebrated as his greatest opera.
Conducted by Hannu Lintu
Soprano Silja Aalto, tenor Mika Pohjonen, mezzo-soprano Maiju Vaahtoluoto and bass Matti Turunen will perform as soloists in the Requiem. They will be accompanied by the Finnish National Opera Orchestra and Choir as well as the singers from the Helsinki Philharmonic Choir.
Hannu Lintu, Chief Conductor of the Finnish National Opera, will conduct the concert.
