Hannu Lintu

Introcution

In autumn 2023, Lintu takes up the baton as Chief Conductor of Orquestra Gulbenkian whilst continuing his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. At the latter, he will conduct the final opera of

Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Götterdämmerung, as well as Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Messa da Requiem, a ballet production based on Verdi’s music.

His concert appearances in the 2023/24 season will include debuts with Berliner Philharmoniker, NHK Symphony Orchestra and SWR Symphonieorchester, and returns to Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Minnesota Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the George Enescu International Festival.

Lintu’s numerous recordings for Ondine, BIS, Naxos, Avie and Hyperion have received several accolades, including two ICMA awards and two GRAMMY nominations.

Lintu studied cello and piano at the Sibelius Academy, where he also later studied conducting with Jorma Panula. In addition to this, he has participated in masterclasses with Myung-Whun Chung at the L’Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
